The Carpathian Junior Hockey League will starts its fifth season this weekend! Due to the pandemic situation in the world, the jubilee season will be different...

"The past season ended prematurely just before its finish. We had to cancel the final rounds and end the season without awarding Champions in each category. Thats why, we were looking forward to the new, jubilee season. We hoped that the situation would calm down and we will be able to start new season without problems. But the situation is different. We are very sorry about it, because 45 teams of different ages have shown interest to play in CJHL. In the current situation, when traveling is limited, it is very difficult to play a league in which teams from 9 countries are active. Nevertheless, we tried to find a way how to save this season, "said Peter Kločanka, director of CJHL.

Despite everything, we can look forward to the opening tournament of the Carpathian Junior Hockey League, season 2020/2021. It will take place in Nowy Targ, on 17-18. October.

"Yes, I can confirm that the fifth season of CJHL will start during the upcoming weekend. However, its format will be different. We decided to play this season in the form of national and regional qualifications. The best teams will qualify to the finals, which we believe will be possible to play at the end of March or in April, "said Krzysztof Czech, a member of the CJHL Board of Directors, and continued:" About a month ago, this decision was made. Subsequently, I presented this idea to clubs in Poland, which accepted it positively. U16 category will start in Nowy Targ this Saturday. MMKS Podhale Nowy Targ, UKS Niedzwiadki MOSiR Sanok, JKH GKS Jastrzębie-Zdrój and Sokoly Toruń will fight for the right to participate in the CJHL Final Tournament. We will welcome MKS Cracovia Kraków as a guest team on the first round of qualification. Three rounds are planned, we will inform about the venues and dates later. We will also specify information on categories U14 and U12 in the coming days. "

Of course, teams from other countries will also take part in the CJHL season. Due to the high number of applicants, the national qualification will also take place in Ukraine. Oleg Moller, vice-president of CJHL, is in charge of this: "I must begin with big "thank you" to our friend Igor Arkhypenko (director of the Kryzhynka Kyiv hockey school), who is our "extended hand" in Ukraine in these difficult times. As in Poland, also here has met this new competition model with great interest. According to the latest information, the qualification should take place in three age categories. We are currently waiting for the final list of participating teams. I think, I can say that it looks very promising. "

As for other countries and regions, the best model is still being sought. "We are considering a regional qualification in Bulgaria / Serbia / Romania. In these countries, we have several teams interested in CJHL. However, the possibility of organizing qualifying tournaments depends on developments in the region, especially on travel restrictions. We also do not have final solution for Slovakia and Hungary. We are waiting for the expression of the clubs as well as for the development of the pandemic situation. We still have teams from Belarus and Lithuania left, we will see how we will be able to solve their involvement in the current CJHL season, "concluded Peter Kločanka.

It seems that despite a number of problems and limitations, the 2020/2021 Carpathian Junior Hockey League season will begin. The first match is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, at 11:30 a.m. We will bring you the schedule of the first round soon.
