Before begining of CJHL season we spoke with coaches of all teams of Carpathian Junior Hockey League. Hereby we bring you interview with Péter Urbán, coach of DebMis Select.
What are your memories of your hockey beginnings? Who brought you to the hockey and where you done your first hockey steps?
I was 4 years old when I started ice-skating in the kindergarten. Then it became obvious that I will attend a sports-focused primary school. I had the chance to specialize in ice hockey.
How was your hockey career developped? What do you consider to be your greatest hockey success?
I think it was a great opportunity to try playing ice hockey during the old (open skating rink) and the new (indoor skating rink) “era” of the ice hockey in Miskolc. It felt fantastic that I had the chance to play on the same team with those players who I cheered for when I was a child.
3 Silver Medal: Mol liga, Hungarian Championship, Hungarian Cup
When did you start with the coaching? Did you plan to become a coach already during your active hockey career?
I was still an active player when I started to teach skating to small children. Back then I was determined to become an ice hockey coach, therefore I was keen to acquire the knowledge of the Slovakian, Hungarian, Canadian and Swedish professionals/coaches.
Where have you been coaching till today?
Miskolci Jegesmedvék, DVTK Jegesmedvék U8-U18
Do you have a coach-idol? What hockey style do you prefer?
I don´t have any. I like Canadian and Finnish style.
The most beautiful moment of your coaching career?
When I see my team doing everything for success.
What would you like to achieve as a coach? Do you have a coach dream?
I like my hometown, Miskolc. I would like to work here and support those local children who want to be hockey players. Hopefully we can establish a sports academy in Miskolc, where children can study and play hockey and we as coaches can support them to reach their goals.
With what targets do you enter the CJHL?
To give more opportunities to the players for improvement besides playing only in the Hungarian championship.
Do you think that such international competition can help young players in their hockey development?
Sure. New venues, new challenges, new opponents all contribute to the improvement of the players.
