Before begining of CJHL season we spoke with coaches of all teams of Carpathian Junior Hockey League. Hereby we bring you interview with Anton Rojko, coach of MŠKM TREBIŠOV.

What are your memories of your hockey beginnings? Who brought you to the hockey and where were your first hockey steps realized?

I like to think about my beginnings. It was with my parents when I was in hockey arena for the first time. Some time later I saw a poster posted in school saying there is a recruiting for hockey, so I applied and thus my hockey career has begun. It can be said my father brought me to hockey, when I was 5 years old and it was in Martin.

How was your hockey career developed? What do you consider to be your greatest hockey success?

I began in youth teams and when I was 16 – 17 years old I began to train with senior team in Martin. As 17 years old I played my first extra league game for Martin coached by coaches Hossa and Šťastný. Since 1999 to 2013 I was abroad. My greatest success in my career... hard to say. During 18 years of my professional hockey career there was a lot of nice moments. For example I like to think about my first goal in senior extra league in 1997 against Nitra.

Did you plan do become a coach during your active career as a player?

Absolutely. Already during my active playing career I used to coach different age categories. From U16 to seniors.

Where have you worked as a coach?

As a player I used to coach of youth in clubs where I played, esp. in France, Spain, and later on in my native Martin.

Do you have a coach-idol? What hockey style do you prefer?

I do not have a coach-idol, however I like coaches as Ivan Hlinka, František Hossa, Luděk Bukač and Ján Starší. I prefer old Czechoslovak hockey style, mainly years 70-80-90, linked to aggressive skating and hockey style based on good physical preparation.

The most beautiful moment in your coach career?

The most beautiful moment in my present coaching career is the victory in first league of U20 with Martin in 2014/2015.

What would you like to achieve as a coach? Do you have a coach dream?

As a coach I always tend to achieve the best result in the club where I work and to teach my team all I can that they can progress and grow the most.

With what targets do you enter CJHL?

Certainly with the target to achieve the best results.

Do you think that such international competition can help young players in their hockey development?

I think it surely can. International forum always brings great quality and gives the players new experience.
