Only one day remains until the start of the third round. We talked to the most productive player of Wolves divison. Our questions were answered by Maciej POREBA, a forward JKH GKS Jastrzębie.

Tell us something about your start in hockey. How did you get involved in hockey and where did you take your first steps in hockey?

I had my first contact with the ice when I was six. We went once a week from nursery school to the stadium, where they taught us how to skate. At that time I also regularly started to attend practice at JKH GKS Jastrzębie.

Do you still remember your first coaches? Can you highlight some of the coaches who have or had a major impact on your hockey growth?

I came in contact with several coaches in the recruitment group. My current coach – Mariusz Bernacki – has been my coach for 5 years. I think every coach I've trained with has had some share in my hockey growth.

Do you have a hockey idol or a favorite hockey team?

From the players, Sidney Crosby and Yevgeny Malkin. And so it is not surprising that Pittsburgh Penguins is my favourite team.

What would you like to achieve in hockey? Do you have a hockey dream?

Like any young hockey player, I’d like to play in one of the best hockey leagues, the KHL or NHL.

Your team is new to the Carpathian Junior Hockey League. We now have two rounds behind us. What are your impressions of this competition?

In our home competition we regularly play against Polish teams. We also take part in various tournaments, where we play mainly against Czech and Slovak rivals. The CJHL gives us additional opportunities to play against teams from other countries.

With 27 points – 13 goals and 14 assists – you’re the most productive player in the league after two rounds. Do you prefer to score goals or does setting up goals for your teammates give you greater joy?

It doesn't matter who scores. The coach always tells us that the goal was scored by all five on the ice, by the whole team. We all work on ice together to score goals.

Like you, your team is doing well so far. You didn't lose a single point in the first two rounds. What do you think is your team’s greatest strength?

We’re very happy to be the leader of the group and that we’ve not lost a single point. I think our team’s greatest strength is its team play.

The third round will be held in Jastrzębie. You’ve already gained a spot in the final six. What will be your goals when you are skating your home ice?

We want to continue to play well and confirm our skills on ice in every game.

We’re at the halfway point of the season. What will make you happy by the end of it?

We still have league games to play and to battle our way to advance to the national final. I’d like our team to finish the season with two successful appearances. In the final of the Polish League and in the final of the CJHL.

In conclusion, what would you wish for your teammates but also your competitors in the CJHL during the second half of the season?

I wish everyone a lot of games on a high-level. And mainly without injuries.

The CJHL will visit Jastrzębie for the first time. If you were to make a tourist guide for your rivals, what would you show them in your town?

Definitely the city park in the old Zdrój district (spa). There are also the buildings of a former sanatorium and salt inhaler. The Spa Park (Zdrojowy Park) is located near the Dąbrówka Hotel, where most teams will be staying, so they’ll be able to see it. Among the newer attractions, the skate park is definitely worth seeing.
